The interlocutors exchanged views on matters falling within the Agency’s jurisdiction that are of particular importance to Montenegro’s European Union accession process. Particular attention was devoted to the implementation of key reform priorities, strengthening preventive anti-corruption mechanisms, and further enhancing the institutional framework for the fight against corruption.

Director Braletić presented the key results achieved by the Agency since the beginning of her term of office, the activities currently under way, as well as the institution’s priorities for the period ahead.

She particularly highlighted activities aimed at meeting the closing benchmarks in the EU accession process and addressing the remaining GRECO recommendations, strengthening cooperation with state prosecution offices, particularly the Special State Prosecutor’s Office, as well as aligning secondary legislation with the new anti-corruption legislation.

She also noted that the new legislative provisions have broadened the Agency’s competences, making it necessary to further strengthen its professional and administrative capacities in certain areas.

Braletić stressed that a comprehensive and systematic approach to capacity building should enable the Agency to be fully prepared for the 2027 electoral cycle, with clearly defined procedures and effective oversight mechanisms in place.

Ambassador Sattler recalled the support provided by the European Union to the Agency’s work and capacity development through various instruments and programmes, including TAIEX and the European Union–Council of Europe Horizontal Facility. He reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to continue providing support, particularly in the Agency’s preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.

The meeting reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to continuing an open and constructive dialogue and to further strengthening cooperation between the Agency and the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro. The interlocutors agreed that a strong, independent and effective Agency has an important role to play in achieving sustainable results in the fight against corruption and advancing Montenegro’s progress on its path towards EU membership.
