Montenegro accepted into the Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities

As of today, Montenegro is a full member of the European Network of Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA), having previously held observer status.

The eighth plenary session of this organization, held in Rome, was opened by the President of the Italian National Anti-Corruption Authority, Giuseppe Busia, who emphasized the importance of the preventive mechanism of whistleblowers, as well as their protection.

In addition to the admission of our country to membership, the new leadership of the Network was elected at the meeting, the Statute was adopted, information was exchanged regarding the implementation of the new EU directive on whistleblower protection, and other topics significant for members were discussed.

Representatives from the Agency for Prevention of Corruption, which is the representative of Montenegro in NEIWA, the Head of the Section for Acting on Whistleblowers Reports and Whistleblowers Protection, Kristina Braletić, and the Senior Advisor in the Section for International Cooperation, Standards and Public Relations, Nina Sekulović, presented the legislative framework in Montenegro related to reporting and whistleblower protection. In addition, they informed the participants of the meeting that an analysis of the provisions of the Law on Prevention of Corruption in this area is underway, in cooperation with experts from the Council of Europe.

Established in May 2019, the Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA) brings together 36 institutions from European Union countries and candidate countries for membership. Its purpose is to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of integrity and whistleblowing.
