The meeting was described as the beginning of further strengthening of the partnership between the two institutions, with a focus on systematically improving cooperation, exchanging information, and developing more effective mechanisms for joint action.
The discussions focused on improving data exchange through the establishment of more efficient, secure and faster channels for communication and access to information. It was emphasized that strengthening institutional interoperability has also been identified in the latest European Commission Non-Paper as one of the key prerequisites for more effective action against corruption and strengthening the rule of law.
Particular attention was paid to continuing the implementation of recommendations arising from GRECO’s Fifth Evaluation Round concerning the strengthening of integrity within the police system, with the Agency’s role as the national coordinator in the implementation of GRECO standards and in providing expert support being emphasized.
It was stressed that the integrity of public officials is an absolute priority and the foundation of public trust in the work of institutions, as well as a shared responsibility in further strengthening professional and ethical standards across public administration and the security sector.
It was noted that strategic documents in the areas of European integration and the fight against organized crime envisage further formalization of cooperation between the Agency and the Police Directorate through the conclusion of a cooperation agreement, which would strengthen coordination in areas of mutual interest.
The interlocutors agreed that activities aimed at drafting and signing such an agreement, as well as strengthening joint institutional action between the Agency and the Police Directorate, would be undertaken in the period ahead.
The meeting also addressed the continuation of joint training programmes in the areas of corruption prevention, ethics and integrity of police officers. The interlocutors also highlighted the successful implementation of a joint campaign encouraging citizens to report suspected irregularities to the competent institutions.
It was concluded that cooperation between the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and the Police Directorate represents one of the key pillars of the system for preventing and combating corruption. The two institutions will, within their respective mandates, continue to work in partnership towards a shared objective—strengthening the rule of law and ensuring an effective fight against corruption.
