Oct. 9, 2020

As part of regular activities, and in line with the commitment to deepen cooperation with the civil sector, Ms Jelena Perović, Director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption, and her associates met this week in separate visits with representatives of NGOs Civic Alliance, Centre for Civil Liberties and Politikon Network.

During the talks, a high degree of agreement was reached in subjects of common interest. The desire to exchange information, knowledge and experiences, and to establish a true partnership, with mutual commitment to the fight against corruption in its various forms, was emphasized.

The importance of education and prevention and mechanisms for providing support and protection to whistleblowers were especially emphasized. The common position is that there is room for changes and improvements to the existing legal framework, and a more detailed definition of the position, role and competencies of the Agency, but also for a more comprehensive use of applicable legal solutions.

At the meetings, Director of the Agency familiarized herself more closely with the ideas and projects of non-governmental organizations in the field of anti-corruption, and the topic was also the concretization and formal-legal strengthening of cooperation. The interlocutors recognized the importance of more extensive mutual communication and the creation of a climate of mutual trust, as a basis for more purposeful, efficient and optimal use of resources.

Once again, an unambiguous message was sent about the Agency's full openness to the public, its accessibility and transparency in its work. The contacts with representatives of the civil sector are becoming a recognizable practice of the Agency, which opens the doors to all interested non-governmental organizations and encourages them to bring forward specific proposals, comments and suggestions.
