Sept. 25, 2024

Pavle Ćupić, Chairman of the Council of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption (APC), and Nina Sekulović, Advisor in the Section for International Cooperation, National Coordinator for the ACN OECD, participated in the plenary meeting of the Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ACN), operating within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), held from September 16 to 19 in Paris.

The plenary session covered the 23rd monitoring meeting and the 29th meeting of the ACN OECD Steering Group.

The monitoring meeting focused on the evaluation reports of Central Asian countries—Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan—within the fifth cycle of aligning their anti-corruption mechanisms with the Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan (IAP). The IAP is an expert review program launched by the ACN in 2003, aimed at supporting member countries in their fight against corruption through expert evaluations and continuous monitoring of the implementation of given recommendations. It includes a detailed evaluation focused on ten key anti-corruption areas. The reports of all five countries were adopted at the monitoring meeting.

In the upcoming period, the Western Balkan countries will be in the focus of the IAP evaluation. Drago Kos, the chair of the IAP, invited all interested parties to engage in this comprehensive and effective review.

During the meeting, following the new practice allowing the exchange of experiences, asking questions, and sharing best practices between participants and evaluated countries, Nina Sekulović, the national coordinator for ACN OECD, exchanged information with representatives of Uzbekistan on the national anti-corruption strategies of both countries.

At the 29th Steering Group meeting, activities carried out in 2024 were reviewed, along with the work plan for 2025 and the communication plan. Updated information was presented by the OECD, other international organizations, and donors relevant to ACN countries. A special session was dedicated to lessons learned regarding anti-corruption strategies.

The ACN supports the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia in their fight against corruption, providing a regional forum for promoting anti-corruption activities and facilitating the exchange of experiences and best practices in the fight against corruption. The Anti-Corruption Agency is the national coordinator for ACN activities, with Montenegro as a member.
