Director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption Jelena Perović and her associates met with representatives of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Nermin Nišić, regional director for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, and Andrew Rogan, senior program and anti-corruption officer, who are on a mission to observe the presidential elections in Montenegro.

Dušan Drakić, Head of the Section for Implementation of Control Measures in Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns, presented the legal framework and the Agency's activities in this area, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and continuous improvement of practice.

Introducing the interlocutors with the challenges faced by the central preventive anti-corruption institution in the application of the Law on Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns, Director Perović pointed out its vagueness and shortcomings, especially with regard to campaigns on social networks and campaigns by third parties. That is why it is necessary to start the process of improving the legal text, as an essential part of the electoral legislation reform. In addition, the director spoke about cooperation with international partners, the civil sector and the media.

Mr. Nišić said that the quality of the Agency's work is recognized in the region and that IFES is ready to offer support and technical assistance in the control of campaign financing, including the fight against the interference of other countries in the electoral process.

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems, founded in 1987 in the US state of Virginia, is a non-profit organization that assists and supports free and democratic elections.
