In the manner of transparent policy, respecting the voice and position of the civil sector, the director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption Jelena Perović and her associates met today with representatives of non-governmental organizations Center for Democratic Transition (CDT), Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI) and Center for Civil Liberties (CEGAS).

The topic of conversation was the monitoring, supervision and control of the election campaign for the local elections in Nikšić.

Expressing her commitment to dialogue and strengthening the environment of mutual trust, the Director of the Agency said that she sees the civil sector as a partner in acting to protect the public interest. The combination of institutional and non-institutional knowledge and experience can make a full contribution to strengthening the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. After the end of the elections, the Agency will have reports and analysis of the costs of political entities during the campaign within the legal deadline.

Highlighting transparency, Dušan Drakić, Head of the Department for Control of Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns, explained the competencies of the Agency, which, acting ex officio and with submitted complaints and suspicions, is dedicated to essential control and supervision of the election campaign.

Pointing to the atmosphere in Nikšić before the elections, the representatives of the civil sector offered suggestions regarding the control of campaign financing and the behavior of the actors in the election process, improvement of the election legislation, motivating citizens to report possible abuses, and the need for increased Agency’s presence in the media.

The conversation was a continuation of the Agency's communication with the NGO sector. It was agreed that mutual cooperation would be deepened and concretized, and that meetings would become a regular practice and be held on a weekly basis.
