The APC delegation consisted of the President of the Council, Mr Pavle Ćupić, Deputy President, Mr Mladen Tomović, and the Head of the Division for Handling Whistleblower Reports and Protection of Whistleblowers, Ms Kristina Braletić, while Mr Milan Dakić, the Head of the Office of the Chief Special Prosecutor, also attended the meeting.
Emphasising that the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SSPO) is a key body towards which the Agency is directed and in view of the fact that nearly 50 percent of the reports submitted by the APC to the competent prosecutors’ offices due to there being grounds for suspicion that a criminal offence that is prosecuted ex officio has been committed falls within the jurisdiction of the SSPO, the APC representatives stressed the importance of further improvement and strengthening of cooperation in that particular segment of activities.
Referring to the jurisdiction of the Agency, the international and national legal frameworks, as well as the recommendations of international entities, the interlocutors expressed their readiness to further formalise the cooperation between the two institutions by concluding a Cooperation Agreement, and it was also agreed that the Agency’s representatives would participate in the work in the cases referred by the APC to the SSPO.
Welcoming the initiative of the APC Council to organise a meeting, the Chief Special Prosecutor expressed his belief that the new mechanisms to be established in the cooperation between the two institutions would contribute to a more effective fight against corruption.
The interlocutors stressed that the upcoming challenges required an even more intense engagement for the fight against this harmful social phenomenon to be even more effective and constant.
